It have a 1st person view wich is great! Lot of flexibility. You can even add 2D art in it :DAnd they update frequently!. First of all, I will state that this is an excellent piece of software and I highly recommend it... with a few caveats which I will mention later. Bare in mind that I have owned ALL of the RPG Maker Software Packages and I would still recommend this over those.Let me go over to pros and cons of the engine as I see them.Pros:Hardly any learning curve unless you want to import custom 3D models.Comes with a nice set of 3D modelsCreating new blocks is extremely easyThe engine is well documented for the most partThe developers seem quite activeYou can make commercial games with this (there are a few on steam already)The non-music DLC Assets are quite good (I own all but 1 and but not interested in the music)If you use the base character types, the Character Editor DLC can be a massive boonYou can switch between 1st and 3rd person views and it even has a VR Mode (which I have not tested)Battle system can be 2D or 3D but you can still use 2D enemies in 3D battle modeThe event system is very easy to useThere is a lot of 3rd party content out there which an greatly enhance your asset repositoryHas gamepad support and a built in key for dash modeCan have an unlimited number of maps and modelsLarge maps might require a bit of loading but once they are loaded there is never any lag... I'm sure there are a lot more pros here but this is a good start.Cons:Only 4 Directional Movement unless in 1st Person mode (Hopefully this will change in the near future)No system in place for time as of yetNo scripting support yetCreating and Importing custom 3D models can be an arduous taskOnly the most basic support for ARPG battle systems through creative eventingCannot change the UI of your game other than borders and backgroundsDoes not support 3D sound effects (sounds that get louder or quieter based on your distance to them)Character stats, skills and leveling system are somewhat limitedDoes not yet support the usage of any type of video or animated image (gif or apng)The "good" 3D characters the game comes with (8) cannot be used with the character editorThe community is currently quite smallControl keys for keyboard and gamepad are not configurableMap Size is limited to 256x256 blocks which means no big overworld maps unless you get creative with eventingand of course the price... its quite steep so you may want to wait for a saleDespite the cons, I still recommend the engine. I feel that in time, most of those cons will be eliminated. You can see by the number of hours I have put in that I can give a proper review of SGB. I see the negative reviews out there with very little time on record who did not give the engine a proper chance. There is a demo! Try it for yourselves! I think that this engine has surpassed RPG Maker in some ways due to its 2D restrictions and in the future I think it will surpass it even more.. Very fun engine to mess around with. FPS camera is cool and its very easy to set-up various types of events. Importing custom 3D models, however, is an absolute nightmare. Despite following the instructions in the software's manual and referencing community-written guides, 99% of the models I try to import either import 'successfully', yet don't appear in my list of 3D assets, or they do appear in the list, but no 3D model is displayed in the preview window. I've even exported built-in characters and assets and re-imported them only to encounter the same issue. Complete lack of object resizing (aside from a scaling option that only appears when you're importing, with no preview) as well.. to be honest this was my 1st purchase on steam, for support the SGB teambest deal ever.11/10 would recommend to a friends.very good team, active forumswhen this bigger than other "game maker", soon i believe.i already here. This software is never updated. Hasnt been any new features in over a year. There is hardly any administrative support. All tutorials come from community members as well as new assets. The engine isnlacking, yet i paid iver $100usd with the hope that all the assets i bought it would eventually be upgraded to make up for what it lacks. Stay away from this software.. absolutely love this program!it's easy to learn and me and my nephewmake games in less than a day or a hour.. This s quite possibly the best possible RPG game engine for the first foray into 3d. With an easy to understand interface, simple programming, and simplified graphics, Smile Game Builder can guide you into making your world.
